My Favorite Photo Session Locations Around New England

Aren’t we so lucky that New England provides the perfect backdrop for beautiful family photos? With its picturesque landscapes, charming towns, and changing seasons, the states we call home offer a fantastic variety of options to choose from when planning your photo session. As a photographer who’s had the chance to capture countless memories, I wanted to share my favorite session locations with you.

Consider Your Vision

When planning your family photo session, it’s important to consider the vibe you’re hoping to achieve. Are you looking for a casual and relaxed atmosphere or a more elegant setting? Are there any locations that hold special significance for your family, such as a park where you were married or a spot where your baby took their first steps?

By carefully choosing a location that aligns with your vision, you can create a truly memorable and personalized family photo session that you’ll cherish for years to come.

In-Home Sessions

While your home might not immediately pop into your head when picking a good spot for your photo session, it might be the best place to choose. In-home sessions are incredibly cozy and comfortable, allowing everyone in your family to feel more relaxed. Children can be themselves knowing they’re in their safe space, and these sessions offer a beautiful, intimate glimpse into your everyday lives together. The result is natural and genuine photos depicting your family exactly as you are.

Your adorable pets can even jump in for some photos because they’re part of your family too! And as an added bonus, you have everything you need at your fingertips, making it especially convenient if you have little ones.

Beachfront Sessions

New England beaches are the quintessential backdrop for family portraits, no matter the season. In the summer, you can run and play in the sand and splash in the water, while the fall and winter offer a very different type of vibe. But regardless of the time of year, New England beaches provide breathtaking views and landscapes to enjoy.

I love the feeling of a beach photo session because it feels so carefree, making it one of my favorite choices for families.

Some of my favorite beaches for photos include:

Rail Trails

For families interested in a more laid-back photo session, rail trails offer an extremely easy walk, perfect for exploring and taking pictures with your favorite people. You can wander down the trails, enjoy each other’s company, or even pack a cute little picnic to enjoy together during your session. Paved trails are accessible for families that need a flat walking surface while still desiring a beautiful backdrop.

I always recommend:

Nature Park

Nature parks are an effortless and versatile option for family photo sessions. If you have little ones and want an easily accessible location, a park is my go-to choice. They often offer ample parking, fun amenities like playgrounds, and paved walking paths to explore without straying too far.

My favorite parks for photo sessions are:

Wild Fields and Rolling Hills

While I may be biased, I think that wild fields and rolling hills offer some of the most beautiful photo opportunities in New England. In the summertime, you can take photos amongst the wildflowers, and in the winter you can create memories by sledding down the hills with your favorite people. It’s an underrated spot, and I highly recommend trying it out.
